My name is Janice L. Jackson. I am the proud mother of Paramedic Anthony Jackson and the creator of The Anthony Jackson Memorial Scholarship. On Tuesday, October 17, 2017 my only son Anthony was murdered by his childhood best friend 5 days before he could enter the Fire Academy to become a Firefighter/Paramedic. He would have made a great one. Anthony served as a paramedic for 10 years. He saved many lives. During his career as a paramedic Anthony saved the lives of opioid addicted individuals with the drug Narcan. Anthony received 2 Clinical Save Awards for resuscitating two people who were clinically deceased. Since Anthony has been gone I am constantly hearing stories from people about the lives of individuals who Anthony saved. Anthony never told me about these things. After Anthony was gone I found a newspaper article in the St. Louis Post-Dispatch with his picture where Anthony had assisted in a house fire in Baden, MO. Again he never told me. I found this among his personal effects after Anthony was gone. When Anthony was 12 years old he saved the life of a child who did not see a car coming. Anthony ran out into the street grabbed that child and they rolled to the sidewalk saving that child's life. This was one thing that Anthony did tell me but, he waited until he became a man to tell me that. I believe it was because he knew that if he had told me at the time though I would have been proud of him I would also have been scared and upset. I believe that this was the event that planted the seed in Anthony's head that he wanted to become a Paramedic and live a life of service. At the age of 16 Anthony even attempted to save our family dog Klondike when he went into cardiac arrest by giving him mouth to mouth resuscitation. This was an event that I witnessed myself. Again I was proud of Anthony but, I was also concerned about his health and safety after that attempt. I created The Anthony Jackson Memorial Scholarship to Honor Anthony to Remember Anthony and to Help Somebody. I want to carry on Anthony's Name and his Legacy. I don't want Anthony to be Forgotten. Anthony did not get the chance to marry the woman he wanted to marry and he did not get the chance to become a father but, in a way the recipients of The Anthony Jackson Memorial Scholarship are his sons and his daughters. The Anthony Jackson Memorial Scholarship is an Annually Awarded Scholarship for Minority Economically Challenged Adults. This Scholarship is for Future First Responders to attend the Fire Academy to become Firefighters. Anthony was a First Responder in Every Sense of the Word. Anthony was a Hero. I am very proud of my son. I do not want Anthony's life and death to be in vain. I am devastated by his loss. He is truly missed. Anthony was 36 years old. I want someone to step up and take the banner and complete the mission that Anthony was not allowed to complete. It is my goal to someday create The Anthony Jackson Foundation.
